400,000 Cambodians use mobile money services

Mobile money services in Cambodia are used by around 400,000 users, the Phnom Penh Post reports citing the National Bank of Cambodia. Acleda Bank's Unity branded service saw a 547 percent increase in cash flow in 2011, with over USD 64 million in total transactions. Acleda Bank expects to double its more than 50,000 Unity users this year, Acleda senior vice president for marketing Sok Sophea said. Acleda will also launch services for non-account holders next month.

Meanwhile, Wing, the mobile money unit of ANZ Bank, saw an average of 5 million transactions per month last year. The company did not disclose customer nu mbers or transaction values. Wing is hoping to partner with microfinance institutions which would boost the company's growth.
