PHNOM PENH -- At least six villagers died and 52 others were being treated at hospital after they drank local- made liquor, which is suspicious of poisonous substance contamination, police said Thursday.
The accident happened on Wednesday night in Mort Prey village in Pursat province in western Cambodia, said Bin Vanna, police chief of Krokor district.
He said that the victims bought about 60 liters of rice wine to drink after a villager's funeral.
"After they drank the wine, they felt dizzy and vomit," he said. "Six died at hospital."
He said that three of the 52 victims are in critical condition.
"At first, we suspect that the wine is contaminated with poison, then we send it for laboratory examination," he said.
