June 16, 2011

(VOV) - Vietnam and Cambodia have paid due attention to strengthening the role and position of women in society, including the role of female deputies in legislative agencies at all levels.

These remarks were made at a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on June 15 by Truong Thi Anh, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council and National Assembly deputy, and Ty Borasy, Cambodian Senator and Head of the Committee for External Relations, International Cooperation and Communication and Information.

Senator Ty Borasy said her current visit to Vietnam aims to contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries’ legislative agencies and to learn about the capacity, experience and role of Vietnamese female deputies, especially those at grassroots level.

She highly valued the achievements of Vietnam and HCM City in particular, highlighting Vietnamese women’s important role in the country’s achievements, especially in political and socio-economic areas.

The Vice Chairwoman of the HCM City People’s Council affirmed the Vietnamese Party and State’s views and guidelines on raising the role and position of women in society, including women holding high positions and taking part in legislative agencies.

HCM City saw recent increases in terms of the proportion of women in Party committees and the number of female deputies to the National Assembly and the People’s Council, Anh said.
