Russia Detains Four Poaching Vessels Under Cambodia Flag

VLADIVOSTOK, July 1 (Bernama) -- Russian coast guards detained four poaching vessels flying the flag of Cambodia near Sakhalin in the past days.

In a statement, the coast guards fired warning shots to force the fishing boats namely Atika, Adams, Iris and Sirius-7 respectively, to stop their activities, Russian news agency Itar-Tass reported Friday.

The four poaching vessels were detained and a total of 44 tonnes of live crab were seized. The crabs was later released into the sea, the report said.

The Sakhalin coast guards said they detained 22 poaching boats in the past two months, and over 230 tonnes of live seafood were released into the sea.

Ten criminal cases were instituted against the captains of poaching vessels and fines worth 12.7 million rubles (US$455,777) were imposed on them.
