The trial for a Vietnam War veteran accused of possessing explosives outside a mosque was adjourned Tuesday until July so he can undergo psychiatric evaluations. Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Bruce Morrow ordered Roger Stockham, 63, to undergo the competency hearings after learning Stockham sent a letter to the Islamic Center of America last week. His attorney, Matthew Evans, said the letter was just "a rant." Stockham is charged with making a false report or threat of terrorism and possessing explosives with unlawful intent. Police arrested Stockham Jan. 24 outside the mosque on the Detroit and Dearborn border and said he had fireworks, spray paint and a ski mask in his car.

Passport services end May 27: The Wayne County Clerk's Office will stop offering passport services May 27 because of the office's lack of resources and low demand. The action affects the main office and all satellite offices, Clerk Cathy Garrett said. People who need passports can go to a post office.

Woman taken in custody after hours-long standoff

A standoff in which Trenton Police surrounded a house for several hours ended Tuesday afternoon when officers removed a 57-year-old woman from the residence in the 1700 block of Hawthorne. The woman's husband called police around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday reporting that she had a handgun, threatened him and said she was going to kill herself, said Police Chief William Lilienthal. After several hours of negotiations, the Downriver Mutual Aid SWAT team took her into custody. The woman was taken to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
