Cambodian workers in Thailand not affected by border rows

Bangkok, Feb 9 (TNA) The Thai Ministry of Labouracknowledged today that the ongoing border tension betweenThailand and Cambodia has not affected the overall employmentof some 70,000 Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand and eventheir nationality verification processes-- although theemployment of Cambodian daily workers in areas near the borderhas been suspended due to the closure of border passes.

Thai Labour Ministry Spokesman Sutham Nateetong said thatCambodian authorities have continued to send officials tocarry on the verification processes for the 70,000 Cambodianmigrant workers in Thailand, and the the processes for morethan 50,000 of them have been completed.

The spokesman suggested that Thai employers and peopletake care of Cambodian workers and said not to put pressure onthem, as the Cambodian migrant labourers are not the cause ofthe ongoing border rows between the two neighbouringcountries. (TNA)
