Vietnam, Cambodia agree to further cooperation

The Vietnamese and Cambodian Prime Ministers reached high consensus on all contents for increasing bilateral cooperation in the future at their talks in Phnom Penh on Nov. 15.

The talks came after an official welcome ceremony Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen held for his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung on the latter’s official visit to Cambodia .

The two PMs showed their satisfaction at fine developments in the two countries’ relationship over the past time as well as their determination to further deepen and bring bilateral friendship and all-sided cooperation to a new height.

They highly evaluated the outcomes of the last visits by Vietnamese and Cambodian leaders and agreed to increase the exchange of visits at all levels in the coming time.

The two PMs agreed to create favourable conditions and sought efficient measures to boost bilateral cooperation in areas of high potential, including trade, investment, banking, power energy, mining, oil and gas, industrial crops, and transport.

They consented to encourage trade, services and cooperation between localities, especially in the shared border areas.

PM Dung and PM Hun Sen reached a consensus on continuing with close cooperation in security and defence and reinforcing cooperation in combating terrorist activities, trans-national crimes, smuggling, and drug and human trafficking.

They reasserted the agreed principle of not allowing any hostile force to use one’s territory to harm the other’s security and undermine bilateral friendship and cooperation.

The two PMS expressed their resolve to hurry up land border demarcation and border marker planting in order to complete it before the end of 2012 along with exchanging views on ways to promote cooperation in ASEAN and other sub-regional cooperative mechanisms.

PM Dung said he felt happy to revisit Cambodia and congratulated the Cambodian people on the immense achievements they have made in building and developing their country and the country’s growing position and prestige in the regional and international arena.

On the occasion, he spoke highly of the conditions Cambodia has created for overseas Vietnamese to stabilise their lives and do business and asked for more favourable conditions for them so they will contribute to strengthening and enhancing the friendship and neighborliness between Vietnamese and Cambodian peoples.

PM Hun Sen highly valued Viet Nam ’s role as the ASEAN Chair in 2010 as well as the country’s successful organisation of the 17 th ASEAN Summit and related meetings.

He took the opportunity to express wishes for the success of the 11 th National Party Congress that Viet Nam plans to hold in early 2011.

The Cambodian PM especially praised Vietnamese investors for raising direct investments in Cambodia at a time when many countries around the world have met with difficulties in investing abroad due to the global economic and financial crisis impacts.

He expressed his belief that PM Dung’s visit will create a strong driving force to boost the two countries’ traditional friendship and all-sided cooperation to new heights for each country’s prosperity.

Following the talks, the two PMS witnessed the signing of a payment agreement between the State Bank of Viet Nam and the State Bank of Cambodia .

During his stay in Cambodia , PM Dung will attend the sixth Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Summit (CLV 6), the fifth Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Viet Nam Summit (CLMV 5), and the fourth meeting of the Ayeyawadi-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperative Strategy (ACMECS 4).
