Clinton encourages religious, political tolerance in predominantly Muslim Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - As U.S. voters prepare to go to the polls in hotly contested congressional midterm elections, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is half a world away, continuing a marathon tour of the Asia-Pacific in Malaysia.

Barred from partisan political activity as America's top diplomat, Clinton on Tuesday was in the main Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur, promoting religious tolerance and moderation in the Muslim-majority nation. After meeting students and civic leaders, she will see Malaysian leaders to boost counterterrorism and security co-operation.

Clinton is in the midst of a two-week, seven-nation journey through Asia that already has taken her to Vietnam, China and Cambodia. From Malaysia, she heads to Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Australia.
