Donors pledge US$1.1 billion to Cambodia

International donors have pledged US$1.1 billion in aid to Cambodia this year, a substantial increase from the US$951.5 million the country received in 2009.

The figures were announced by the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister cum Finance-Economy Minister Keat Chhon at a press briefing after the completion of the third Cambodia Development Cooperation Forum (CDCF).

Deputy PM Chhon said that the aid package will be an enormous help to Cambodia’s development strategy, adding that Japan is still his country’s largest donor.

The two-day forum, which ended on June 3, drew the participation of more than 100 representatives from 16 donor countries, including Japan and the US, and from seven international financial organisations, such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
