The Puea Thai Party has petitioned the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights and the office of Human Rights Watch in Thailand, asking them to investigate a report that the government's security agencies have blacklisted 212 people, party deputy spokesman and former Thai ambassador to Chile Pithaya Pukkaman said in a press conference on Monday.

Mr Pithaya said those reported to have been blacklisted included close associates of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, core members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, and 11 revered Buddhist monks in violation of human rights.

Plodprasop Surasawadi, a deputy party leader, said that he and about 50 Puea Thai MPs and members on the list, particularly party leader Yongyuth Wichaidit and deputy House speaker Col Apiwan Wiriyachai, had been followed by police on the pretext of giving them protection.

This was a gross violation of human rights and an act of intimidation, he said.

Mr Plodprasop said the party had to petition the international organisations because state organisations could no longer be of their help.
