Vietnam helps Laos build development triangle portal

02/02/2010

Vietnam will help Laos build the Lao version of the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Development Triangle Portal.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) presented one tonne of equipment, including computers, photocopiers, scanners and office equipment to the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 29.

According to the results of the CLV Development Triangle Coordinating Meeting, the MPI is responsible for building a portal on the three countries with a view to creating an online forum between the trio and their partners.

The portal will provide information relating to the three countries, especially in administrative procedures, investment environment and potentials, in four languages namely English, Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian.

On the same day, the Tien Phong-SMP Plastic Pipe Factory, a joint venture between the Hai Phong-based Thieu Nien Tien Phong Plastic Joint Stock Company (TNTP) and Laos’ SMP Co., Ltd, was inaugurated in Vientiane.

Covering a total area of 7,500 sq.m, the factory includes a 2,000 sq.m workshop, a 1,000 sq.m warehouse, a rest house for workers and a dining room. It was built at a cost of 3.5 million USD, of which 51 percent was contributed by the TNTP.

In the first phase, the factory is capable of producing 8-10 tonnes of materials per day.
