Navy chief Kamthorn Pumhirun said he is confident that the planned red-shirt rallies to at the end of the month will not lead to violence.

Adm Kamthorn said he believes all parties have learned that violence does not benefit anyone, and that the protesters should already know how to rally under the rule of law.

Authorities will be able to control the situation and there is nothing for people to worry about, he said.

But if needed, the navy was ready to provide personnel and arms to ensure the safety for the public.

Adm Kamthorn also said that the navy still has good ties with the Cambodian navy.

On Wednesday, Cambodia put further strain on ties with Thailand when authorities in Phnom Penh expelled all Thai employees from their offices at Cambodia Air Traffic Services (CATS), a Thai company owned by Samart Corp.

The move followed the arrest of Sivarak Chutipong, a CATS employee, who was accused of stealing ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra's flight information and giving it to Thai authorities.
