Moc Bai border area to be economic hub

14-11-2009

TAY NINH — The Moc Bai Border Economic Zone will be developed into an economic and tourism hub not only of Tay Ninh Province but also the south eastern region by 2020, provincial authorities have said.

To be set up under an amended zoning plan approved recently by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, the hub will cover the Moc Bai Border Economic Zone and the Phuoc Chi and Long Thuan border areas.

Covering an area of 21,284ha in the districts of Trang Bang and Ben Cau, it is expected to facilitate Viet Nam’s economic and other exchanges with Cambodia and other ASEAN countries.

The zone’s population is forecast to reach 100,000 by 2020 with an urban population accounting for 60 per cent.

The main Moc Bai Border Gate will cover an area of 5ha and have border security, customs, and quarantine offices besides showrooms and duty-free shops.

Many commercial centres will be built on an area of 250ha, including a market, bounded warehouses, an international commercial centre and an administrative centre.

A 300ha industrial cluster will be built along the Vam Co Dong River to the South. — VNS
